The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic bishops. CCHD is committed to supporting groups of low-income individuals as they work to break the cycle of poverty and improve their communities. By helping the poor to participate in the decisions and actions that affect their lives, CCHD empowers them to move beyond poverty. There are two distinct grant programs:
Community Development Grants Programs does this by supporting organizations that nurture the participation of people living in poverty to change structures and policies that affect their lives.
National Economic Development Grants Programs focuses on supporting five types of Economic Development Institutions (EDI's). These are typically community-based organizations and businesses that create just workplaces, provide good jobs and develop assets for low income people that are owned by families and communities.
All organizations that are interested in applying for a National CCHD Community Development grant or an Economic Development grant and who are not currently receiving a national grant for the same project are required to submit a Pre-Application to the National CCHD Office.
The Pre-Application and instructions for completion and submission can be accessed through the Community Development and Economic Development Grants criteria pages. Pre-Applications are accepted between September 1st and November 1st. Organizations are strongly encouraged to submit their pre-application prior to the November 1st deadline.
