“And He said to them, 'Come away by yourselves to a lonely place,
and rest a while.’” - (Mark 6:31)
The Church has always encouraged the practice of taking time away from ordinary activities to focus more intensely on one’s relationship with God. Jesus himself was always “going away to a quiet place” in order to pray to his Father. We see in the above Gospel passage that he was training his apostles and disciples to do the same. There was no expiration date on the the disciples’ need! In our busy lives, there is a great need for personal prayer and spiritual reflection, to ensure that the interior life remains healthy.
